What You Need To Know - DENIM

With the resurgence of a more casual environment, hopefully, you are exploring the world of nice denim.

At ABBEYDALE, we make them custom in Italy and with a variety of fabrics, finishes and options. (same goes for our 5-Pocket pants, chinos, cords, etc)

I thought it was a nice to time to shed some light on terms and ideas you may cross in your search for the “perfect pair.”

SELVEDGE

Selvedge denim, widely considered the most exclusive and premium denim fabric available today, is produced denim fabric is woven on a traditional shuttle loom. The looms method of weaving naturally produces a tightly-bound, finished self-edging (where the name Selvedge originates — meaning self-edge)

RAW

The purest form of denim, known as raw denim, is that which is unwashed and untreated. Over time, with prolonged wear, the denim fades and takes on a well-worn appearance, resulting in a highly-prized look amongst denim heads.

INDIGO

Indigo blue is the official name of the blue we speak of when referring to blue jeans. Indigo is the natural pigment used for dying denim yarn, giving jeans that much-cherished deep blue color.

HOW TO TREAT THEM

How to wash, when you really must: Turn the jeans inside out and wash them by hand in cold water. Wash the jeans separately from other clothes. Please do not tumble dry your jeans but dry them flat and away from direct sunlight.
