My Favorite Casual Shirt

There is no doubt we’re dressing a little more casual these days, so I wanted to share my go too casual shirt.

Chambray

Chambray is a celebrated fabric for warm-weather dressing because it is a fine yet dense natural fabric made from linen or cotton. It’s very similar to denim, but it’s woven, making it much lighter and more breathable.

Styled with the right layers, however, it can stay on top of your wardrobe rotation all year round.

Chambray has always had a slightly preppy feel to me, but for versatility, it’s hard to compete with.

Chambray is easy to dress up or down and goes with just about anything from chinos to corduroy pants, which is why I think it deserves the spotlight, whatever the weather.

I’ve even been known to wear chambray with a tailored suit or sport coat. It’s that elemental to my rotation.

How I Wear It

I try not to consider chambray as an alternative to denim; rather, I try and pair them together as complementary textures.

Chambray lends itself perfectly to mid-layers, making it great for wearing under a contrasting sweater or over a plain tee.

It’s lighter and easier to move in than denim and less stuffy than an Oxford shirt.

If you’re looking for a smart take, wear that chambray with some gray flannel trousers and a navy sport coat.

Instance elevation.

In other news, we lost a real one this weekend.

Rest in Peace Sir Thomas Sean Connery (August 25, 1930 – October 31, 2020)

You inspired many, and from what I can tell, you were a proper gent.

Pouring a little out for you today. (shown below in, you guessed it, chambray)
