SEPTEMBER 2023 -
It's still hot, but I feel Fall nipping at the heels. (Ok, not really, but you know…FOOTBALL is back!) Here’s a quick hit list for this month.
Would you benefit from a Capsule wardrobe?

My 3 Thoughts For September - Memento Mori - Achieving Elegance and Would you benefit from a Capsule wardrobe?
Can’t-miss Radiohead mix I’ve been jamming to since 2008.
THE SOUNDTRACK
The amount of times I’ve listened to this beautiful concert (especially while working) is embarrassing. I figured it was time to share. Push play and zone out. Hard to belive this is a live recording sometimes. Enjoy!
DAVID’S 3 thoughts for SEPTEMBER 2023
Here are a few thoughts to consider DAILY this month. There are only 3 for a reason. Execute.

I feel like this is an excellent reminder to us all. Last Tuesday, a big ass truck ran a red light and crushed me pretty good (I’m OK — just sore as hell), but it’s a great reminder that we’re not promised tomorrow. Whatever it is you keep putting off — stop it. Make the call to a loved one. Push send on that social media post and launch. Book that trip with the kids. Let’s get it because life can be fleeting. #mementomori

“Elegance is achieved when all that is superfluous has been discarded and the human being discovers simplicity and concentration: the simpler and more sober the posture, the more beautiful it will be.” - Paulo Coelho. (The dude who wrote The Alchemist)
Not sure if he was referring to style of dress, but I’ll say it until I’m dead. There is beauty in stripping everything away to only the essentials. It’s also tough to do. Keep stripping….

I don’t think I’ve ever discussed the idea of a capsule wardrobe online before. So, let’s shed a little light on it and see if it interests you.
What’s a capsule wardrobe?
A capsule wardrobe is a set of men’s clothing essentials that can be worn year-round and eliminates the extra pieces in your closet. You are streamlining the number of items you own while trying to maximize the function and outfit options. Basically, it's a versatile closet that never fails you!
Why should you have a capsule wardrobe?
Having a capsule wardrobe is efficient and the best “bang for your buck”. It allows you to invest in high-quality (fewer) items, and it helps you simplify getting dressed every day.
Simply put - A capsule wardrobe makes getting dressed simple, stylish, and efficient. It’s more of a sniper approach and I’m all about that.

A collection of items worthy of a purchase, a read, or an action.
-
The History of a Black Tie and a Guide to Wearing It - Tom Chamberlin is the Editor-in-Chief at the Rake and has a great series on his IG about the history of all things menswear. He’s a good follow, and I’ve learned a lot from him.
The traditional Japanese golf experience is unlike any other - This was a fascinating behind-the-scenes look into another culture’s approach to sport. Always here to learn.
Saman Amel Fall 23’ Curated Looks - Drape is definitely back in the sartorial world.
Paul Kix On The Civil Rights Movement And What It Means To Be Courageous - One of the best Pods I’ve listened to in a while.
-
Albers Indigo Chambray Workshirt - A chambray shirt should be the hero of a man's wardrobe. It pairs with anything and goes anywhere.
The Work Jacket by Le Mont St Michel - I love Moleskin and these fit just as well whether you’re huddled around your laptop or halfway through chopping your latest batch of firewood. With the clean looks and the charm of heavier workwear, their whole collection earns a resounding yes from me.
Imogene + Willie Faded Black Tee - I've really been into black as of late...and this is just the right amount of fading. Killer.
Norse Projects - Lund Eco Dye - My job is to make you think a little and maybe push you out of your comfort zone. I'm really digging this...from a design, it looks sleek, and paired with some shorts as we head into "hoodie and shorts season," this could be a good alternative.
Officine Generale Lipp Garment Dyed Shirt - It's hard to pull off burgundy, but it makes it a little easier when it’s been washed and rewashed. Great color for Fall.
-
18 East Shelter Pant - Olive - These are just the right amount of slim and comfy. Highly endoresed by DC who travels a ton. These go from beer meetings to the airport with ease.
Imogene + Willie Oliver Military Trouser in White - Military trouser in white. Yep. Count me in,
adidas Men's D4R RFTO 5” Shorts - The best $ I've spent in a while. Been running a fair amount and I've loved these. The snaps are smart.
-
Oake Street Trail Oxford - A rugged yet refined trail oxford. These look so good with denim and work with polos, button-ups, tees, you name it. Do something different than an everyday loafer this Fall. Add some chunky socks for that chilly mountain coffee run. (On sale!)
Merrell - Eagle Luxe Goretex Boot - You might get invited on a hike as the weather starts to turn. These are fashionable and functional.
Adidas Spezial - Liam Gallagher - One of the best frontmen of all time, Liam Gallagher has a new drop from Adidas. The first run sold out quickly, and this new green/white colorway is pretty money.
Common Projects Suede Slip On - TABOR in Charlotte is at 70% off. This is a sleek shoe for a great price.
-
Craighill Cast Iron Match Striker - Why do I love stuff like this so much. Not a need but a want.
Adler Axes - Canoe Axe - Nothing says Fall like an Axe? Well, maybe not, but what a cool gift idea.
Billy Kirk Slim Belt - Chunky belts are out. Love this 1" slim belt from Billy Kirk. Adds a touch of elegance to your denim. Especially if pairing with loafers. (On sale as well)
District Vision - Linto Rider - Finally a "sport" pair of shades that look cool. These have a vintage vibe but will hold up well for long rides and runs.
Granville 30 Carryall Bag - What's a Sporting Club month without a bag. This is pretty rad. Grab-and-go carryall tote made from a durable, highly weather-resistant pack cloth
-
Teamwork Denim Apron - Can an apron be elegant? Rendered in the right fabric and cut properly - I think it can be. Launching in October, it promises to be an ally in the kitchen, at the easel, or simply when puttering around the house.
SEEQ Protein - I was looking for a protein that wasn't vanilla or chocolate and came across Seeq. It's basically a high-protein Kool-Aid. If you struggle to get protein in like me and need to supplement, this has been perfect this summer. I make a batch and sip during the day. One hundred calories and 22 grams of protein. Win.
Ettore Sottsass Bodum Electric Kettle - MoMA Exclusive: Designed by Ettore Sottsass—founding member of the Memphis Group—in 1988, this electric kettle brings a bright pop of contrasting colors to your kitchen. This updated version features new color combinations chosen by us in collaboration with Bodum. At once an everyday object and Postmodern sculpture, this design can be used to boil water for coffee, tea, ramen noodles and any recipe that requires hot water.
CB2 - Patio Leather Drink Caddy With Handle - Football Sunday on the porch and you're tasked with bringing out the drinks? This is your partner.
