Issue # 6 - JUNE 2023 -

It’s June and the official start of summer (June 21st!) Named after the Greek goddess of childbirth and fertility. Soooo….good luck to those trying for more and those who aren’t - watch out. 😂

Either way, June is awesome and tends to get really busy with vacations, pool gatherings, and the like.

Plenty of opportunities to flex our sartorial flare - and that’s why you’re here.

Let’s get right into some arm weather style!

THE SOUNDTRACK

This month we’re getting you teed up for those summer shindigs by the pool. One of the most iconic Boiler Room Sets to date. Chill, funky, singable, and most importantly, danceable.

Fred Again is the truth. Push play - Have Fun!

DAVID’S 3 thoughts for june 2023

Here are a few thoughts to consider DAILY this month. There are only 3 for a reason. Execute.

  • Famous music producer Rick Ruben with some golden insights on why he doesn’t chase trends. I think we need to think of our wardrobes in a similar light.

“I love music that is outside of time…and one of the things about using organic instruments is a piano sounds like a piano a hundred years ago, and it sounds like a piano today, and it will sound like a piano a hundred years from now. If you use the latest sounds, the newest sounds of today, then tomorrow they will sound like the sounds of yesterday - so - it’s a delicate line to work with the newest of sounds because it can end up sounding very dated”.

    SO GOOD!

  • I wasn’t 100% sure where this should go, so here it is. If you were to ask me years ago, my answer would have been entirely different. Maybe making money and buying things, but now, as a mid-life dude, I’m here.

Locate what matters to you and how you want to spend your time, then cut all the other shit out of the way. Have more experiences and travel over buying and consumption. Eat good meals with people you want to sit across the table from! I’m curious to hear what you’re shedding from your life as you age. Less is more, right?

  • As a kid growing up in the South, I used to hate the traditional blue/white seersucker. Even today, I associate it with the upper class (probably not true, but somewhere along the line, I made this association, and it never left)

Well, wouldn’t you know, as times change, so have I. I’m still not a fan of the blue/white colorway, but Seersucker now comes in so many solid colors which I’m a massive fan of. I always wear a navy solid seer and am about to commission a solid olive one. They make great separates, and I think you might also like the new iterations. Questions? Hit me up.

THIS MONTHS LINKS

A collection of items worthy of a purchase, a read, or an action.

  • These are the best guides I’ve come across, with tons of options for you, fellas!

    A Continuous Lean

    TABOR

    Cool Material (Several here)

    Huckberry

  • Mayor of Kingstown - Damn, this is great. I’ve been binge-watching.

From Nobody to Two Billion Dollar Companies - Great story and maybe even better storytelling. MUST READ! (2 Min)

Kurt Vonnegut’s Response - I’ve read this like 10x this month. “In 2006, a high school English teacher asked students to write to a famous author & ask for advice.”

Kurt Vonnegut was the only one to respond.

    His reply was a doozy.

Surf When You Can - I’m only a few chapters in, but already digging. I heard him on a pod, and it was an instant purchase. I loved his story.

“During one of the darkest times in American history, it was a moment that captured the nation's attention. Brett Crozier, captain of the most influential and prestigious aircraft carrier in the United States Navy, walked off his ship for the last time while thousands of his sailors saluted and chanted his name in admiration.

This remarkable moment occurred after Crozier decided to protect his sailors by pleading with his superiors for help when COVID-19 swept through the vessel. Two days later, he was relieved of command.

Crozier reflects on his life, career, and commitment to doing the right thing in a book that celebrates the power of kindness, teamwork, and the value of standing up for what you believe in. Through a series of captivating stories set worldwide, Crozier takes us on the grand adventures of his extraordinary career and introduces the incredible people he met.

From his days as a fighter pilot facing near-death experiences to commandeering suspected pirate vessels in the Persian Gulf and, of course, seizing any opportunity to enjoy one of his favorite hobbies—surfing—Crozier distills the lessons he has learned and the principles that have guided him, showing how you can apply them to your personal and professional life.”

5 Tips For Getting The Perfect Pair of Jeans - Step #1 - Buy from ABBEYDALE. Or Step 2 - Read this guide!

  • Rose + Born - Button Down Olive Linen Shirt - Simple. Classic. Manly color. You’ll wear this more than you think you will.

American Trench Cotton Linen Tee - Why do I list a linen tee every month? I love them that much. That’s why!

    G. Inglese Long Sleeve Cotton Jersey Polo Shirt - The one-piece collar is where it’s at.

Pinebury Cycling - Cycling gear is usually pretty ugly. These kits are not.

  • Bather 5.5” Inseam Trunks - These 5.5” inseams check many boxes for me. They have solids as well as some pattern that isn’t super crazy. I love this from the site “Designed and manufactured in Toronto, Canada, because no one appreciates swimsuit weather more than us.”

Jungmaven - Cabuya Cord Short - Cut and sewn in Los Angeles, these washed cords are an excellent choice to have a lil character while also being comfy and functional. I’m always drawn to the washed black - could be the rebel in me (black cords in the summer?) Yes, yes, I’d say. Don’t get freaked out by the unisex sizing. Just size up. You’re good.

Outerknown - SeventySeven Cord Utility Short - Kelly Slater (the world champion surfer) has a great surf-inspired brand that’s been putting out highly sustainable gear for years. This is a modern take on a celebrated '70s classic. Reimagined with the softest organic cotton fine-wale corduroy for endless comfort. You had me at “utility short.”

orSlow Re-Created US Army Fatigue Pant - It is hard to beat a great pair of broken-in fatigue pants, but unfortunately, most don't have the perfect fit. OrSlow has solved this. First, sourcing the exact fabric, washing and working to feel just like the original, and then cutting with a much more modern slim fit that seems to fit well on everyone. These are the pants you've been hunting for in vintage shops.

Imogene + Willie Loungewear - Who says we can’t invest in nice “kick it” clothing? These are tough to beat!

Saturday’s Joby Mountain Short - For the trails or the couch. That Linden Green is a unique colorway.

American Trench Cotton Linen Shorts - Anything goes with these strong foundational shorts, which ground your summer look in their impressive texture.

  • Soludos - Dali Canvas Espadrille - This canvas Espadrille does the trick for a summer kick-around shoe - and damn, it’s $40.00! I used to have a pair in black years ago. Solid! (nobody wants to see your toes at a restaurant - drop the flops and get these)

Vans Mountain Mule - Kick back and relax in these at home or the campsite. Waterproof leather outside and an MTE outsole provide added traction and are easy to clean.

Drakes X Sebago Boat Shoes - If you’re a boat shoe guy, these will take that look up a notch.

Yogi X Johnny Marr - Damn it. Why does one of my favorite guitarists have to do a collab for a shoe? Now I gotta have a pair. They are pretty sick, though. He wrote this song with the MOZ!

  • Topo Designs Quick Pack - Great one for the dads out there. Use the quick-pack bag for quick trips to the park, traveling, and bike rides. It fits everything you need: diapers, snacks, a water bottle, and a change of clothes.

Persol Aviator Sunglasses - Hard not to fly high in a sexy pair of sunglasses like these classics. Half off on Amazon.

Patagonias Black Hole Tote - Why is this only $69? I love a big ass tote.

Parkhurst London Shave Kit - Luxe grooming set is a fail-safe gift or treat-yo-self idea.

  • Viski Beau Lowball Tumblers - I need these.

Coleman Reunion Cooler - For the pool, beach, or anything you need to keep cold!

Grill Press - Who doesn’t need one of these? It works excellent for the bacon in the pan as well.

Charcoal Stainless Steel Hot Dog Sausage Roller Rack - So good I had to re-post (it was in the ACL gift guide). It’s the gift I didn’t know anyone needed - until now.

  • The Joy of Traveling Solo - Benefits of Traveling By Yourself - I loved and related to this article. Perhaps you will as well.

Tokyo: A Sartorial Shopping Guide - All things fancy men’s shopping in Tokyo, Japan.

BioLite Powerpack - Charge everything from your phone, tablet, laptop, or beach speaker.
