The M-65 Jacket: A Timeless American Classic and My Favorite Piece of Clothing

The M-65 jacket has been an American military classic in production since 1965. In the almost 50 years since its inception, the M-65 has undergone very few changes and remains virtually unchanged from the original design. Today, the M-65 jacket is a popular style choice for men and women and can be found in various colors and fabrics. Here's a brief history of this iconic piece of Americana.

The M-65 Field Jacket was introduced in 1965 as part of the U.S. Army's standard-issue uniform. The jacket was designed to provide soldiers with superior protection from the elements. It featured several convenient features, including a drawstring hood and waist, a snap-up storm flap, and four large pockets. The M-65 quickly became a favorite among soldiers and soon found its way into civilian fashion.

Over the years, the M-65 jacket has been adopted by several subcultures, including punks, skinheads, and mod revivalists. Today, the M-65 is more popular than ever, with everyone from hipsters to celebrities sporting the style. The timeless design and functionality of the M-65 make it a wardrobe staple.

Now, why is it my favorite piece of clothing? Few things here. Above all, it’s a classic design that can be worn in almost any environment. I wear it quite a bit in colder months with tailoring: a sweater, flannel trousers, and suede shoes.

Unique, yes…functional…you bet.

But the main reason I love it is my dad gave me his from his Amry time post Korean War. It’s camo and has WATKINS right above the chest. Sentimental indeed. I love it.

I think every dude needs one…and I prefer vintage over the ones brands put out today. Sizing can be tricky, so you’ll want to try a few. You only need one. Make it great!
